Bobs Austin Bedroom Set Reviews
Having finished a 2-year remodel of our home, we're now almost done with completely refurnishing every room. Our experience with Mitchell Gold Bob Williams was just horrible.
Early in our furniture shopping, we purchased 3 items from their Scottsdale Arizona store - including a white Kimora Dining Table (of which the finish has now started to peel off) and a 9x12 Lago Rug (that began falling apart shortly after arriving in our home).
Here's the original rug they delivered. I spent the next several months getting them to respond and agree the lack of any color in the area toward the bottom was even a defect. They claimed it was 'inherent variation' and was to be expected.
After a lot of back and forth, they agreed and sent a replacement rug.
One end of the replacement rug had clearly been made from many scrap-ends of material glued together. Short strands of jute a few feet long were held together on the face of the rug with hardened balls of glue. (The customer service representative referred to these as 'hand-crafted ties').
These joints progressively started to separate, causing 1 inch long strands to protrude upward from the face of the rug. Customer service insisted these strands were 'naturally occurring beautiful variation'. Note the original rug showed not a single sign of these dislodged strands of 'beautiful variation'. Nor did the showroom rug.
Here's the replacement rug after being in our house for about 4 weeks, at which point 7 strands were sticking up, all within an area about 3 feet wide, toward only one end of the rug. There would be more later, as the glue balls continued to dry and crack - all happening at only one end of the rug.
In general, their customer service was incredibly incompetent - in the 9 months it took to resolve the rug issue it was not uncommon to wait 4 weeks for any response to my emails.
My first 5 months of dealing with this was wasted with them arguing there was nothing wrong at all with the replacement rug (after claiming the same regarding the initial rug).
When I refused to accept the loosening strands, they switched direction and spent the next 3 months empathizing in sugary-sweet agreement with me about the unacceptable condition of the rug, while claiming there was just nothing they could do - as 'the factory' said this was normal - and customer service just had no ability to challenge the factory's decision. Clearly a disgusting way to treat any customer.
Ultimately, after having our money for 9 months, they refunded the rug only after I posted my experience to their Facebook page. Obviously, we will never again step foot into a MGBW store.
On the other hand - in the meantime we've furnished our home mostly through Room & Board, Crate and Barrel, and a couple of European manufacturers through Archiproducts.
I can't say enough good about Room & Board. Their quality has been great. In the one case where we had a concern with their leather Westport Recliner, they sent a furniture upholsterer to our home within 2 weeks of my notifying them of the problem. When he determined an exchange was the best solution, we had a new recliner 2 weeks later. They were incredibly responsive and the delivery service was outstanding.
